Coolant leak could be serious!

A Mercedes C180 pulled up to our workshop today with check coolant level checklight on.

After visually inspecting and conducting a coolant pressure test on the vehicle, a worn, leaking thermostat housing was found to be the main source of the leakage.

The thermostat is one of the important components in the car cooling system, its main function is to regulate the circulation of engine cooling from the radiator to prevent overheating of the engine. While the engine cooling system functions so that the temperature inside the engine remains at an ideal condition. A leaking thermostat would cause coolant level to fall and could lead to engine overheating if not fixed.

Bad Thermostat Symptoms

  • Overheating Engine. If the thermostat stays closed, the engine's coolant cannot reach the radiator and, therefore, cannot cool down.

  • Temperature Fluctuations.

  • Rising Temperature and Full Expansion Tank.

A new original thermostat was ordered and carefully replaced so as to not damage other components while installing.

Once done replacing, another round of coolant pressure test and test drive were conducted to ensure no more leakage. Lastly, a full exterior car wash and interior vacuum was done as a complimentary gift from AUA!
